Credit union members are being warned not to respond to scam emails informing them they have won prizes in a national credit union lottery.

Members replying to emails sent out from culottery.co.uk are likely to be asked to reveal bank details and risk identity fraud and theft.  

While many credit unions run lotteries to raise funds for their credit union, the Association of British Credit Unions (ABCUL) is advising all its members that there is no such national lottery.   

ABCUL states that although the culottery.co.uk lists a number of credit unions on its website, none are associated with any such lottery. It also points out that photographs of alleged lottery winners are actually doctored photos taken from the Connecticut State Lottery website.

ABCUL chief executive Mark Lyonette says: "It is a sad side effect of the increasing popularity of credit unions in Britain that scammers are targeting credit union members.

"I would advise anyone who receives an email saying they have won a prize or requesting any information to contact their credit union and not respond to the email."

PLANE SAVER’S FIRST CORPORATE GOLF DAY RAISES OVER £7,000 FOR CHARITY

Plane Saver’s first ever Charity Golf Day raised over £7,000 in aid of Help for Heroes, The Afghanistan Trust and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Held at The Grove, Hertfordshire, one of the country’s finest championship golf courses on Monday 24th September 2012, the event was attended by senior executives from across the airline industry representing BAA, Emirates, Etihad, British Airways, Air Canada, Lafarge, Babcock, Crew Training Centre (CTC), Servisair, VanDerLande and United Airways.

Despite heavy rain during the first part of the day, competitors soldiered on and were rewarded by an afternoon of sunshine and great golf, with even the more experienced veterans of the game agreeing that this was an excellent course and a great day out.

Participants stayed on to enjoy an excellent dinner followed by the charity auction hosted by top international boxing MC and Sky Sports pundit John McDonald making this a highly exclusive occasion at this luxury venue.

Speaking after the event, Plane Saver’s CEO David Mc Mullan said: ‘Especial thanks to our marketing director, Mick Gadsby, our marketing manager James Marshall, our special advisor Chris Thompson of BA, those generous sponsors who raised so much for charity and to the board of directors of Plane Saver for agreeing to fund what has proven to be a successful event by all accounts.’
